1740's Benjamin Huntsman developed his crucible steel technique.
1764 James Hargreaves invents the Spinning Jenny.
1768 Richard Arkwright develops the Water frame a device which used water power to drive it.
1775 James Watt produces a much improved steam engine.
1775-1779 Samuel Crompton invents the Spinning Mule a hybrid of earlier textile machines and precipitates a vast building program of Cotton mills.
   
1780's Introduction of Coke in all stages of the Iron industry for smelting.
   
Early 19th Century Britain displaces India as the powerhouse of world cotton production.
Manchester famously nicknamed Cottonopolis and seen as the World capital of the Textile Industry.
   
   
Mid 19th Century Development of the Black Country - a highly industrialized area of England which rose at the same time as the North-west textile industries. It included the towns of West Browich, Wolverhampton, Dudley and Walsall.

The Industrial Revolution of the 18th and 19th century was responsible for sweeping changes in Agriculture, Mining, Transportation, Manufacturing and Technology. The Revolution originated in the United Kingdom and quickly spread to Europe, North America and then worldwide.
The revolution had a dramatic effect on daily life with sustained rises in average income and population growth to a level never previously reached.
In late 18th century United Kingdom the economy shifted from a largely manual labour and draft animal base towards machine based manufacturing.
