Lord Nelson - Quick facts



Flagship was named The Victory.

Born in Burnham Thorpe, Norfolk.

Nelson was the 6th of 11 children born to the village rector.

Nelson's flagship at the Battle of the Nile was called Vanguard.

Nelson’s bloodstained stockings and breeches from the Battle of Trafalgar are on permanent display at the National Maritime Museum.

After losing his arm at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, he invented the "half-Nelson" wrestling move as a matter of necessity for survival when up against hairy arsed sailors.

In 1905 a monumental four tons of pigeon droppings were removed from Nelson' Column. In 1993 £150,000 was spent smearing the landmark with a slippery gel to prevent the birds from perching.
